What a great week!  We did an author study on Eric Carle.  Each day we read a different book and did an activity with it.  Some of the things we did are in our smilebox slideshow.

On Monday we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and made a flip-book to help us retell the story.
On Tuesday we read Draw Me a Star and watercolored our own star to make it look just like Eric Carle's.
On Wednesday we read A House for Hermit Crab and created a book page.
On Thursday we read The Mixed-up Chameleon and created a book page for a class book and on Friday we read Head to Toe and did the same.

The kids really enjoy making class books because they love to read each others work and show off their own as well.

Here is The Mixed-up Chameleon animated. The kids really enjoyed it and thought it was so funny.  Check it out below.

Here is the link for Hed to Toe.  They turned it into a song and they loved acting it out.  Play it and have them show you!

Here they are doing it a school!

In phonics this week we made a tree map of short vowel sounds.  I would give them a picture and they would have to say the word and decide what short vowel sound they heard.  They did such a great job.
We also learned about plurals and what it means.  We took words and made them plural to make our sentences make sense.

In science we finished up our long unit of plants learning about young plants and parent plants.  We are pro's now when it comes to plants.  I also sent most of the plants home last week but there are a few that are taking longer to grow so we are still working on those. :)

The next two week we will be learning all about our great state, Texas!  We will also start our fractions unit next week.

Bailey is the last Cat's Meow for the year.  Check out all the things that she likes.

We had a visitor on Tuesday.  Odi is a former student of mine and is currently in first grade.  She came to read to us.  We really enjoyed it!
