Scarecrows!

Just another FABULOUS week!  We got lots of things done!  Everyone is getting into the guided reading routine and reading like super stars!
Literacy
  • Handwriting: Xx, Uu, Vv
  • Word wall words: Brown, be, for
  • Poems: The Brown Song, The Scarecrow
  • read Stellaluna (a fictional bat story) and also watched a video about bats
    • made a circle map of bat facts
    • wrote bat facts on our black bats with white crayon
  • made scarecrows with patches and fringed hay
    • wrote out a sentence to describe our scarecrows
  • wrote in our journals about bats and scarecrows
  • made a class book for our Star of the Week
  • jobs/centers
    • nocturnal/Diurnal  tree map
    • stamp it- brown, be, for words
    • poetry- Little Miss Muffet sequencing 
    • write the room Bats
    • vowels at pocket chart
    • white boards/play-doh
    • magnet center with word wall words
Math
  • Did 2 UPS check problems a day in our math journals

Science (positional words)
  •  played a game that is similar to hide and seek
    • I would hide a stuffed animal and the kids had to go and find it.  Whoever found it had to use a positional word to describe where it was found.  Then that student got to hide the stuffed animal.
  • played Simon Says with positional words
  • made a sentence describing where we place our bird by our house ex:  The bird is ON TOP of the house.
