Poem of the week: Rain
This week we learned all about different kinds of weather and what they do. We also watched some kid appropriate videos to better understand. We learned what the water cycle was and we made our own labeling the different parts such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We also read The Wind Blew and did a comprehension activity. We made shape poems in the shape of different kinds of weather. They had to come up with their own title and then write 6 describing words; then ending the poem with the title again. They made a Rain poem as well. It had to rhyme so the all used their prior knowledge of the word families we have been learning about to help the out.
In math we learned what non-standard measurements were. Then we got to explore around the room and use non-standard objects to measure things. They loved this! We also measured our feet and compared them to each other. We found friends that were the same size, shorter and longer than our own.
In science we learned about night and day. We talked about thing you can only do at night, things you can only do during the day and things you can do during both. We also learned what a sunset and sunrise were. During one lesson we talked about how the earth is always rotating and the sun stays still and that when our backs are to the sun on the globe it is night time. They found this to be very interesting. We also learned that the moon does not actually light up itself. We now know that the suns light is reflecting off of the moon to make it look like it is giving light.
