Last week we started our unit on insects.  We know now that they have 3 parts. A head, abdomen and thorax.  They also have six legs and can be helpful.  We learned that some have wings and that spiders are NOT an insect.  We made our own bug out of construction paper and wrote a bug poem to go along with it.  They are hanging in the hallway!  The students got to pick a head, abdomen and thorax to make a different bug and then they wrote 3 sentences about it.  We are working on collecting our thoughts and using a circle map that is translated into a tree map to help us make sentences.  They do this in first grade so we are getting prepared for it!

In math we learned about capacity and did a few experiments to show that it takes more beans to fill up a bigger bowl than a smaller bowl.  We also talked about real life senerios as to who would use capacity.  Each table had a different job. A cook, painter, pool worker and grocery shopper.  Then each table brainstormed ways they us capacity.  They all did really well!

In science we learned how to reduce, reuse and recycle.  We talked about the differences and how the world would be if we didn't help out in these ways.  We also said that we should be good to the earth all the time.  Not just on Earth Day.

Please make sure to send in you pledge money by this Friday because Cowboy Cameron will be back to collect!
