Literacy

• Word Wall Words: blue, and
• Handwriting: V, W, X, Y, Z
• Poem: Blue

This week we started our apple unit.  We read Johnny Appleseed and made different connections to the story.  We talked about ways we are similar to him.  We also learned what syllables where this week and how to decide how many syllables a word has.  We made circle maps of different events that we can do during each season and we continued to have a character, setting and event in all of our journal writings.

During center time we worked on:

• beginning sounds
• sequencing Johnny Appleseed's story
• magnet center of word wall words
• write the room of the word Autumn
• The Blue book
• putting our Blue poem in our poetry journal and illustrating things that are blue

Math
We measured different items with nonstandard cubes.  We determined if the items were shorter or longer than our stick of cubs.  We also continued to work on different types of patterns, writing numbers from 1-20, subatizing, counting by 10's and determining which number is bigger.

Science
We took a nature walk and made a t-chart of the things we saw that were living and nonliving.  We also played a living and nonliving game.
