We've been focusing on writing small moments.  A small moment is something that is true that has happened to you or something you do.  We've been stretching our stories across three pages by using a story starter, story middle and a story ending.

There are specific steps to take when writing a story.  First you think of an idea.  Then you plan.  You touch and tell your story on your paper before you start writing.  Then you sketch your pictures.  After that, you write!  Finally we always go back and revise to make our story better.  But good writers are never done writing.  Once we finish a story we start a new one.  We say, "Once you think you're done, you've only just begun."
These are some authors at work!  They are touching and telling their story to their partner before they go back to their seats to sketch.

We also discussed what to do when we don't know how to spell a word that we already know.

This week in science we have been learing all about air.  I put packing peanut on the carpet and asked them if I could move them without touching them.
Then I let them experiment by creating their own air to see if they could keep the packing peanut afloat!

We also went outside to see what the air would do to our grocery bag.

Last, we made a wind spiral to see if it would only move with the wind or if air could move it too.  We found out that air is all around us and it moves inside and out.

Place value has been a big focus in math.  We made this anchor chart to help us remember that 1 ten=a rod and anything lest then 10= a unit.  We are also learning how to write numbers in extended form.
We just started to work on one more, one less, 10 more and 10 less with any number on the 120's chart.

We've been sequencing all week during reader's workshop.  We talked about how lots of things have a sequence to them like our day or how you get ready for school.

What a GREAT College Week we had!  We had a special visitor, Lorne DuFour, come speak to us about his college experience and where it has taken him today!  The kids really loved when he took out his bowling ball!
Look at this future eagle!  We had to get a picture together!
So many good looking college pennants hanging outside our room this past week!  They we so proud to show theirs off!
