We Are Learning So Much!

This week might have been short and rainy but we still got lots of learning done!  We went to the Library for the second time and checked out new books!  Mrs. O'Hearn and Rory's brother Elliot came to read to us, too!  Mrs. O'Hearn talked about self-confidence and how important it is to have it.  We also had our first Robertson Roundup!

Thank you Rhyan for
my beautiful flowers!
I love them!
This week we did the following:

Literacy
  • word wall words were me, the, orange
  • handwriting the letter "Dd"
  • learned about rhyming words (ask you child to tell you something that rhymes)
  • started in our writing journals (we are working on detailed pictures)
  • read The Very Lonely Firefly and made our own fireflies that say what makes us feel lonely
  • read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and made a flip book to sequence the story
  • added the orange poem to our poetry folder and completed our orange book to practice at home
  • istation (an assessment based computer game)
  • reading buddies came to read with us!
Math (sorting)
  • sorted shoes, math tub manipulative, boys and girls, big nuts and little nuts, curved lines and straight lines and buttons
  • we also started our math jobs this week (each table has a different job/assignment each day; they must turn it in to the correct basket; they will have a different job everyday because the jobs rotate) after their job is complete they go into math centers
Science (heat and cool)
  • did an experiment with gummy bears to see what would happen if they were exposed to heat and when they were exposed to the cold.  Since it rained most of last week our gummy bears didn't melt the way we wanted them to but we knew that would be the outcome.  The gummy bears that were cooled were put into the freezer.  We predicted they would get cold and hard and we were right!  We also took a little quiz just so Ms. K could see if we understood the concept!  Everyone did great!
We made a tree map of rhyming words
with Ms. Ragan's class!

Reminders:
  • If you have not set up a conference time with me for October 11th you need to do so
  • Make sure to send in the Pumpkin Patch permission slip with MONEY by next Friday
  • Sign you child's folder daily

  1. I had the pleasure of taking care of Zachary Martin on Monday evening. We always read several books before bed and this time he treated me by "reading" The Very Hungry Catepillar. He was also very careful to point out his library book and put it in a specific place because "it's a library book and it's very important to turn library books back in on time so I can't lose it." I am amazed at how much he is already learning in your class and I'm thankful he has a teacher that clearly values her students. Thank you for all of your hard work.
