An Apple A Day....

Another great week in room 304!  So many things are going on and we don't miss a beat!  Check out what we did this week...

Literacy

  • word wall words: blue, and, my
  • poems of the week: The Blue Song, Two Green Apples
  • handwriting: Tt and Ll
  • introduced syllables and practice what we learned with picture cards in pocket chart center
    • ask your child to tell you how many syllables are in their name!
  • made an Apple Pie Tree after reading the book (its outside our classroom for all to see)
    • we made a circle map of all the things that are made from apples
    • we completed our pies by writing a sentence inside of what they liked the most that came from apples
    • the students came up with things like: apple candy, apple sauce, apple juice, apple jam, apple pie and a few other creative things!
  • wrote in our writing journal and added lots of detail to our pictures
    • we are trying to make sentences out of the words we know
    • ask your child if they can write a sentence!
  • center work
    • we sequenced an apple that is slowly being eaten
    • worked on syllables
    • cut out and made our word wall words
    • practiced writing our word wall words for the week
    • magnet center
    • writing on whiteboards the words we know
    • reading big books
Math
  • started our daily UPScheck problems
    • completed our Apple Math Journal
  • talked about addition and subtraction
  • center work
    • even and odd numbers
    • putting apples on a tree based on the number that was given
    • sequencing numbers and coloring them in the pattern of their choice
    • tubs and blocks
Science
  • talked about living and nonliving things
  • took a nature walk outside and observed what was living and nonliving
    • came back inside and made a tree map of things we noticed
  • played an interactive game on the computer and sorted living and nonliving pictures
  • played the living and nonliving card game
    • students have 2 cards (one living one nonliving)  I would say and object and then they would hold up which card they thought it was (play this at home with them!)
We also made a Thanks You card for the custodians because we appreciate all they do for us!  The Little Elm Fire Clowns came this morning and taught us all about safety and to ABC (Always Be Calm).

Reminders:
  • I still need a few responses as to how your child will be eating lunch the day of the Pumpkin Patch.
  • All About Me Posters are do Monday October 4th!!
Enjoy the beautiful weather and have a fabulous weekend!
