The Apple of My Eye

This week was filled with fun apple activities, a great assembly and topped off with Robertson Roundup!  Things just keep getting better!!  Don't forget conferences are Monday, October 11th.  Please try and make arrangements for your child to be taken care of.  It's just easier for us so that we can solely focus on you.  The Book Fair will be open that day so stop by and get some great things!  If we sell 1600 books this year Mr. I said he would duck-tape himself to the wall!!!  We were able to meet this goal last year and the kids loved seeing their principal all taped up!  

This week in 304:

Literacy
  • word wall words: purple, to, in
  • poems: The Purple Song, Johnny Appleseed
  • handwriting: Ii and Jj
  • worked on stretching our words and sounding them out when we write
  • wrote in our journals a few times and really focused on making sentences
  • added a new center:
    • Write the Room (students write words they find around the room)
  • reviewed syllables and beginning sounds in pocket chart
  • spelled apple words at magnet center
  • added our yellow duck, blue horse and our purple cat to our Brown Bear, Brown Bear Book
  • got together with our book buddies and previewed the Book Fair (they made a wish list of books they wanted)
Math (patterns)
  • made people patterns by standing and sitting, clapping and touching our heads
    • the students got to individually make a pattern out of their classmates 
    • they made AB, AABB,ABB patterns
    • made a pattern on a t-shirt
    • tub work of finishing and creating patterns
    • math centers: making patterns
Science (apples)
  • sorted our apples by size and color
  • played "Musical Apples" (when the music stopped we compared our apples to the closest person to you)
  • labeled the parts of an apple
  • read the apple story of the star inside
  • did a taste test of apple juice, apple cereal, apples and applesauce then recorded if we liked it or not
  • made applesauce!!
