Crazy Week!!

We had a short week but still managed to get things done!!  Parent-teacher conferences went great, the Book Fair was hoppin' and the Fall Festival was a blast!!  Can't wait till our pumpkin patch field trip next Thursday!!


Literacy
  • handwriting: Kk and Pp
  • word wall words: black, it, is, for
  • poems: The Black Song, Pumpkin, Pumpkin
  • made a circle map of things that start with the letter "P"
  • read The Leaf Man and made our leaves into something different (It used to be a leaf.  Now it's a ____.)
  • read Pumpkin Soup and made our pumpkins into something different (Pumpkins can look like____.)
  • made a circle map of things that make us a good friend
  • made a circle map about pumpkins and on the outside of our map we wrote things that a pumpkin is NOT
  • Completed center work
    • magnet center had fall words (pumpkin, acorn, football, scarecrow, etc.)
    • pocket chart was a review of blending sounds to make a word
    • read it, make it, write it
    • rhyming words
    • things that start with the letter "K"
    • completed sentences of what a pumpkin is and what it is NOT
    • writing center
    • computers
    • write the room to the word AUTUMN
Math
  • continued our work with patterns
  • learned how to make a number sentence and came up with different equations to equal 5
  • worked on our word problems by using manipulatives on trees
    • students would tell their problem to the class and see if they could get the correct answer
    • ex: Three birds were in a tree.  One bird flew away.  How many birds are left?
Science
  • learned the pumpkin life cycle
    • acted the life cycle out
    • put the life cycle in order and made it a headband
    • started a KWL chart (what you KNOW, what you WANT to know, and what you've LEARNED) with Ms. Ragan's class
    • tables worked together to put the life cycle in order
Don't forget:  Next week is Red Ribbon week!  Make sure to participate in the fun dress-up days!  Also, picture day is Wednesday so look your best!!
