Wow!  What a GREAT first week in Kindergarten!  We had so much fun and did lots of things. Below are some of the things we did this week.

We read Mrs. Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten and made a circle map of the things we did to get ready for Kindergarten.  Then, we made a class book of how we got ready.  Here are a few:

Aiyanna got a new backpack and lunch box.
Carter went and bought supplies with his mom.
Emma brushed her teeth.
Carlos got a new lunch box.

We read Chrysanthemum and then talked about how many letters were in our own name.  Then, we each made a class book page of how many letters we have in our own name. We also read The Kissing Hand.  Please send those in if you haven't already.

On Wednesday, we read I Went Walking and talked about what it means to be an investigator.  We went around our school and made a circle map of things we saw.  We also made a class book.  Here are a few pages:

Alex and Sophia saw Mrs. Hodges.
Amanda saw trash.
Ryder saw Ms. K.

We also read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and made our own Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees.  These are in our smilebox video.

We read David Goes to School and made our own Class Contract of things we promise to do in our classroom.  We also made our own David and picked a rule that we already follow.  Here are some of our Davids.

Franklin throws his trash away.
Krishna stands in line with a bubble in his mouth in the hallway.

We read Stand Tall Molly Lou Mellon and talked about things that make us special.

Our poem for the week was Jack Be Nimble and we got to act out the poem by jumping over a candle stick.  We replaced Jack's name with our own so we could learn each others' names.  Some of the pictures from this activity are also in our smilebox video above.

In Math, we talked about what it means to sort and practiced sorting.  We also explored our math tubs during math workshop and learned how to take attendance.

In Science, we talked about what it means to reduce, reuse and recycle.  We put these vocabulary words in our Science Journal and illustrated what they were.  We also saved our trash one day from snack and sorted it by what could be recycled and what couldn't.

On Thursday, we went to the Library for the first time to meet our librarian, Mrs. Biamont, and to learn some of the procedures.  We will be going to library every Thursday at 2pm.

Don't Forget:
Curriculum Night is this Thursday at 6pm.  It is highly recommended that you attend this meeting.  We would also like for your child to have other arrangements if possible.  Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Some information reguarding PTA:

Parents,
Research shows that student achievement is higher in schools with large PTAs and high parent involvement.  By joining PTA, you have a voice in what your school buys for your child’s classroom.  Help us, help Robertson to be the best that it can be.  Our membership drive starts today and we need YOUR help.
Our classroom is working towards a 100%  goal in PTA membership.  The top class in each grade level will earn a carnival recess that will include a bounce house, games and a special treat to take home.  The teacher will also receive money to buy classroom supplies.
Thank you so much for partnering with me to make a difference in the life of your child!

From the Art Teacher Mrs. Knott:

For the first art project of the year we will be working on making art that can be published; published on a shirt, a magnet, a phone case, a key ring, note cards, etc.  These items can be ordered with your  artwork on them.

More details on the ordering and choice of items will be coming  in the future from your Robertson PTA.

You will need to do your very best work and try your hardest since only one picture can be used.  We will be working on these till the first week of October.

Different grade levels will have different themes.

Kinder - will put Art in their Heart.  We will be looking at the heart symbol, its meaning and use in artwork.  We will also be talking about what is a symbol and how we use them every day in school.

Responsibility is the character trait that we will focus on for the month of September.  The biggest RESPONSIBILITY that we have this month is producing artwork to the best of your ability and by the deadline for publication.
