This weeks color word was orange. Enjoy learning the song!
We celebrated Eli's birthday on Friday. Happy Birthday Eli!
Eli also made something from his library book he checked out last week! Thanks for sharing!
We were really busy this week! We got to start our Readers Workshop and Math Workshop! We are finally getting into a routine and the kids are doing great!
Word Wall Words: a, orange
Poem of the week: Orange
Handwriting letters: F, E, D, P
We continued Writers Workshop and practiced having a character, setting and event in our pieces. We also made a Writing Process Cycle for our class. It's a cycle because it's a never ending process. Once you finish a piece you start another one. We talked about tools that good writers use and why they are important.
On Friday we made a book page of what our favorite color is. Then we illustrated different thing that are the color we picked.
In reading we made a circle map of reasons we read. Some said for enjoyment while others said to learn something new. We also learned what a picture walk was and that good reader do picture walks to help them make predictions of what the story might be about. During Readers Workshop we started our centers. A few that we do are listening center, partner reading, library center, word work center, writing center and write the room center. They did a great job for it being the first week of centers!
In math this week we continued to talk about different attributes and ways to sort. We also made circle maps with different numbers in the middle. We talked about different ways to represent that number. Then I gave each student a sticky note and they chose their own way they wanted to represent that number. Some chose to draw 6 things, some drew 6 tally marks and others made number sentences that equal 6.
In science we continued our 5 senses but got to test them out this week. They really thought it was funny to test their sight out. Drawing a picture with sight and without it was comical to them.
Mrs. O'Hearn, our counselor, came to introduce herself to us this week. She told us what she does. She will be coming to our class twice a month to do different lessons with the kids. She does bullying lessons and self-esteem lessons as well as many others.
