Happy Birthday Cade!  Congratulation Caelyn for receiving The Hippest in the House award for September.  Caelyn possesses the character trait of RESPONSIBILITY.  Way to go!

At Robertson Roundup they celebrated August and September birthdays.  These are our friends who were recognized.  Happy Birthday!  Cade is missing from this picture.

We had a short week but fit lots of great learning in!

Word Wall Words: I, red
Poem of the Week: The Red Song

We started Writers Workshop and talked about what good writers have in their pictures and sentences.  We learned what a character, setting and event was and to have a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence with a period at the end.  They enjoyed getting to write in their journals everyday.

During Readers Workshop we focused on retelling.  On Tuesday, we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you See?  Then we made a chain link with the different colors used in the story and linked them in the correct order.  After we made our chains we retold the story.  I hope your child was able to share this with you!
On Wednesday, we read Little Blue and Little Yellow.  The kids got to retell the story by using blue and yellow playdoh.  We also sent some home for them to retell the story to you!
On Friday, we read White Rabbits Color Book and experimented with the colors ourselves.  Getting to mix the colors was so much fun!

This week in math we got to start our problem solving journals!  The kids really enjoy them.  We also added some math vocabulary words to our word wall.  We added: count, set and equal.  We talked about what an attribute was and then practiced sorting manipulatives by different attributes during Math Workshop.

In Science this week we started our five senses unit.  We added some science vocabulary to our word wall.  The words are: see, hear, taste, touch and smell.  We then illustrated these in our science journal.  We will continue this unit next week by doing different experiments.

Don't forget:
Please send your child's Sight Word Baggie with them on Monday.  We will be adding two new words!

This is the Red Song from last week.  Enjoy!
